Windscreens in Geneva: chips, cracks, replacement
In Geneva, AZ Carrosserie replaces the windscreen when a chip is in the middle of your field of vision or a crack is spreading across the glass, and replaces side windows broken in a break-in. A recent chip outside your field of vision should first be shown at the workshop. If the driver-assistance camera sits behind the windscreen, the workshop calibrates it.

Repair or replace the windscreen: what decides
Four situations, and what happens once we have seen the car:
- A chip in the middle of your field of vision: the windscreen is replaced.
- A crack spreading across the glass: the windscreen is replaced.
- A side window broken in a break-in: it is replaced, and the steps are the same as for bodywork damage.
- A recent chip, outside your field of vision: show it to us, and we will tell you where things stand.
Why you should not ignore a small chip
A chip in the windscreen grows with changes in temperature. Do not drive around for weeks telling yourself it can wait: photograph it early, and choose “Broken glass” in the quote form.
How the replacement is done
The glass is removed, the frame cleaned, the new windscreen bonded in, then the adhesive is left to cure for the required time before the car leaves.
What about the driver-assistance camera?
On many cars, the driver-assistance camera (emergency braking, lane keeping) is mounted behind the windscreen. Many manufacturers require calibration after replacement, according to the good-practice guide of EGEA (the European garage equipment association); the manufacturer’s information says whether your car needs it.
AZ Carrosserie calibrates the cameras, radars and sensors of all makes, with its own calibration equipment, including when the windscreen was replaced elsewhere. The details are on the ADAS calibration page.
One workshop, one claim file
Bodywork, mechanics and broken glass are all handled in-house: one call, one file.
Is broken glass covered by insurance?
In Switzerland, partial casco covers broken glass, along with hail, storms, theft and collisions with wild animals. Source: La Mobilière, “Casco complète ou casco partielle” (in French), accessed on 01.10.2026. What your own policy covers, and the excess you pay, are set out in your terms and conditions.
Give the name of your insurer from the start: there is a field for it in the form, with the claim number if you have it. Without that number, your request still goes through. After a break-in, the workshop contacts your insurer and keeps track of the claim. The details: Accidents and insurance.
How do you request your quote?
Through the quote form, online and at any time, or by phone on 076 429 04 12. Mark the window on the diagram, tick “Broken glass” and attach the photo of the chip or the crack. The quote is free. We reply within 24 working hours.
The workshop is at Avenue Pictet-de-Rochemont 33ter, 1207 Genève. Open Monday to Friday, 7.30 am – 12 noon and 1 pm – 5.30 pm.

Your questions about windscreens
Can my windscreen be repaired rather than replaced?
In the middle of your field of vision, or with a spreading crack, the windscreen is replaced. For a recent chip outside your field of vision, show it to us, by photo in the form or at the workshop: we will tell you where things stand.
Does the camera need recalibrating after a windscreen replacement?
Often, yes, when the driver-assistance camera is mounted behind the windscreen: many manufacturers require it, according to the EGEA guide. AZ Carrosserie does the calibration, including when the windscreen was replaced elsewhere. See ADAS calibration.
Does my insurance cover a cracked windscreen?
In Switzerland, broken glass is part of partial casco (La Mobilière, accessed on 01.10.2026). The exact cover, the excess and the effect on your premium depend on your policy: they are set out in your terms and conditions.
How long does a windscreen replacement take?
It depends on the car and on whether the camera needs calibrating. The adhesive is left to cure for the required time before the car leaves; the drop-off day is agreed with you.
Do you also replace a side window broken in a break-in?
Yes. Broken glass is part of what the workshop handles, just like bodywork. The steps are the same as for a collision: we contact your insurer and we keep track of the claim.
